Don't Bother Me?

By Jim Morris

“Daddy, can I tell you something?” asked my little four year old dressed in his one piece sleeper.

“In a minute son. Can't you see that I'm busy?" I snapped back without even looking at him. It was going to be another long, sleepless night in front of the typewriter to get a research paper completed before the deadline. After all, I was going to school to become a preacher. I was involved in important stuff.

“It's really important, daddy,” urged my son.

“Not now! Let me get done first, okay?” I tried to reason with the little guy. “What would happen if I did not get the work turned in?” I pondered. If I got behind then I might not ever catch up.

“Daddy, please, I just want to tell you something,” he pleaded with a voice so small I almost could not hear it.

“NO! Now go to your room and don't bother me!” I barked without thinking. He turned around rubbing his eyes as he headed down the hallway to his bedroom. I never noticed how small the little fellow was.

“I just wanted to say, 'I love you, daddy'”

In the holiday season rush please make time for the little children.

Jesus took a little child in his arms and said, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes Me. . .” (Mark 9:37a)
